1. Small Single
2ft6″ x 6ft3″ (76cm x 190cm)
Best for:
• Young children transitioning from a cot.
• Smaller guest rooms or box rooms where space is limited.
Considerations:
Ideal for compact spaces, but may feel cramped for teenagers or adults.
2. Single
3ft x 6ft3″ (90cm x 190cm)
Best for:
• Teenagers and young adults.
• Solo sleepers who want just enough space.
Considerations:
Great for narrow rooms, but may not provide enough room for taller individuals or those who toss and turn.
3. Small Double
4ft x 6ft3″ (120cm x 190cm)
Best for:
• Couples who don’t mind sharing a cosy space.
• Single sleepers who like extra room to stretch out.
Considerations:
A practical option for smaller bedrooms, though it might feel tight for two.
4. Double
4ft6″ x 6ft3″ (135cm x 190cm)
Best for:
• Couples in standard-sized bedrooms.
• Single sleepers wanting more comfort.
Considerations:
The most popular size in the UK, offering versatility. However, larger couples may prefer more space.
5. King
5ft x 6ft6″ (150cm x 200cm)
Best for:
• Couples who want extra width and length.
• Taller individuals needing additional legroom.
Considerations:
Works well in larger bedrooms but ensure your room has enough space to move around comfortably.
6. Super King
6ft x 6ft6″ (180cm x 200cm)
Best for:
• Couples who prioritise maximum space and luxury.
• Families where children or pets occasionally share the bed.
Considerations:
The ultimate in comfort, but it requires a spacious bedroom to avoid feeling cramped.
Common Issues and Solutions
1. Small Bedrooms
• Choose a Small Double or Single to maximise space without sacrificing comfort.
2. Taller Individuals
• Opt for King or Super King for extra legroom. A mattress length of 6ft6″ (200cm) ensures no dangling feet!
3. Couples Sharing a Bed
• Consider body size and sleep habits. A Double may feel cramped for two, especially if one partner is a restless sleeper.
4. Family Sleepers
• Super King is ideal if kids or pets join you in bed occasionally.
Quick Tips
• Always measure your bedroom space before buying. Leave at least 24 inches (60cm) of walking space around the bed.
• Don’t forget bed frames! The overall size, including the frame, can add extra bulk.
